Mae Helen Thompson dedicated her 86 years of life to serving those she loved, as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbour and servant of God. She was born to Carl and Lydia Hoff in Gleichen, Alberta, on January 8, 1936, and grew up on the family farm with her brother (Ed), sisters (Ruth, Elaine) and close cousins. She briefly moved to Calgary to train as a teacher before taking up a rural teaching position in the Duck Lake area. It was here that she met John Thompson, and in 1956 they began a 60 year marriage filled with deep love and devotion.
Mae and John established their own homestead in Duck Lake and together built a beautiful life there. As Mae raised their 3 children, Kevin, Susan, and Russell, she never shied away from any of the hard work of raising a family or farming, whether it was sewing, baking, chicken day or branding. She was well known in the community for her incredible skill in the kitchen and with a sewing machine and was always impeccably dressed in outfits of her own creation. Mae served her family, church and neighbours in every way she could, by teaching, volunteering and of course feeding anyone who crossed her threshold.
Mae was a loving and supportive mother, a steadfast and devoted wife and an adored grandmother and great grandmother. She generously shared her many gifts, deep knowledge and tenacious love with us and we will forever miss her presence in our lives.
Mae passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022, and is survived by her brother Ed (Bev); sister Ruth; brother-in-law Buren; her children Kevin, Susan (Rick), and Russell (Linda); her grandchildren Laura (Josh), Heather (Daniel), Jennifer, Ethan, and Everett; and her great grandchildren, Brooke, John, Mason, Janine, Oliver, and Eleanor. She is predeceased by her husband John and sisters Phyllis and Elaine.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hussar at 2:00 p.m. A burial will take place at Hussar Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. To send condolences, please visit Mae’s obituary at www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful and strong mother, Louisa at the age of 88 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Unit.
Louisa, oldest daughter to Tom and Gertie McKee, was born in Drumheller, Alberta and her family resided in Delia, Alberta until 1945 when they moved to what was then, Gus Anderson’s farm, located in the Taylor Siding Area. Louisa attended the Robson Lake School until grade 9 and then completed her high school education at the Drumheller High School. She continued to further her education at business school in Calgary. Upon completion of her business degree, Louisa worked at the Drumheller School Division #30 office and then at the Midland Coal Mining Company.
Louisa married the love of her life, Ralph Lowen in 1956 and lived in Midland until 1958 when they moved to their farm southwest of Drumheller also in the Taylor Siding area. In 1959, Louisa and Ralph welcomed Judith Louisa, followed by Cindy Mae in 1961 and to complete their family Douglas Ralph arrived in 1963.
Louisa and Ralph loved Rodeo and were very involved in the Red Deer River Roping Club and the Drumheller Stampede Board, but what Louisa loved even more was being a mom, Grandma and GG. You could always find her in the stands cheering at rodeos, hockey games, school sports, wherever her children and grandchildren were participating.
Louisa was a fantastic cook!! She loved baking, especially making pies. She ran her Lunch Box wagon at many auctions sales serving up hamburgers and hot dogs as well as too many slices of pie to count. She continued with her business savvy and became a regular site at the Horseshoe Canyon viewpoint scooping many a delicious ice cream cone on a hot summer day in her custom-made ice cream trailer. At branding time, Louisa would cook an amazing roast beef dinner with the best gravy for mashed potatoes ever and at least 3 Flapper pies and a carrot cake for dessert. Needless to say, it was more about her cooking than branding.
Louisa was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph, her parents Tom and Gertie and sister Marion. Left to mourn her loss are Judy (Doug) Goodine, Cindy (Bruce) Groeneveld, Doug (Laura) Lowen. Grandchildren, Kayley (Ryne) Johnson, Cole Goodine, Stacey (Jordan) Groeneveld-Ryan, Codey (Terra) Groeneveld, Krista (Mike) Connell, Courtney (Kyle) Feely, Carter (Allison) Lowen, Cagney (Dylan) Lowen. Great Grandchildren, Paige, Payton, Aisley, Sadie, Emma, Olivia, Ryker, Ava, Lenix and Hadley, Brother Howard (Joy) McKee, sisters-in law Vi Lowen and Gwen Cassidy as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life to honour Louisa will be held on December 8th, 2022 at 2pm at the Munson Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to S.T.A.R.S.

Gloria Faye Kathleen Patterson of Rosebud, beloved wife of the late George Patterson passed away on November 21, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 85 years.
Faye was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 6, 1937. Faye attended Colonel Walker school and later met George and was married in Calgary on August 20, 1955, they bought their first home in Rosebud where they resided for over 40 years and raised their three sons.
Faye sold AVON for several years, this allowed her the opportunity to acquire many lifelong friends from Rosebud. Faye was an avid gardener and homemaker. She was a perfectionist and took the utmost pride in her home and ensured that every aspect of her home was always to perfection. In the summer George would haul tanks of water for her garden and flowers that Faye would grow in her own greenhouse. Faye’s family was always her #1 priority, especially when it came to special occasions. There was always a family event planned that included the entire family. Mom loved Christmas the most and she would always deck her home with every Christmas ornament she had. George and Faye retired in 2000 and purchased their first new home in Strathmore.
Faye is survived by her sons, Leonard (Frances), Michael (Donna), Scott (Linda); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Curtis (Jessica), Namaya, Kyle, Nicholas (Barb), Bennett, Sawyer, Leonard Jr. (Becky), Bradley, Dominic, Melissa (Justin), Veronica, Paten, Elise, Shantel (Daniel), Kaden, David (Kimberley) Alexander, and her sisters Beverly and Sylvia.
Besides her loving husband George, Faye was predeceased by her parents Reginald and Kathleen Leonard, her sister Beth, and her grandson Andrew.
The family thanks the staff at Drumheller Continuing Care, Helping Hands and Dr. Randolph for the care and kindness shown to Faye. Funeral services will be held at Courtney Winters Funeral Home in Drumheller on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 am. A private family Interment to follow at Standard Cemetery, Standard, Alberta at a later date.
