BUND, Josephine Marie

March 5, 1928 - Hartberg, Austria
May 23, 2015 - Calgary, AB

With sadness and celebration we announce that our dearest Mother and loving Oma and Auntie went to be with her Lord on a bright spring Saturday. She passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015 with her family present. Her fierce independence motivated her to overcome the many physical and medical challenges she faced in her later years, but it was time to let go of her earthly struggles. Marie, as she was known to her many friends and neighbours, came to Canada in 1950 , after meeting her husband Karl in Europe the previous year. It was no wonder Karl fell for the prettiest girl in the village of Hartberg. They married on October 18, 1950 in the little village church in Delia and had their wedding reception in Drumheller. From the pictures it looked like the social event of the season. Marie and Karl managed a successful mixed farming operation in the handhills area for over 50 years. Marie was known for her gardening prowess and her cooking and baking abilities in the community with her contributions to countless community suppers and school /fundraising bake sales. She stayed current in farming practices which they employed in their small business. She was the family bookkeeper, chief cook, and gardener extraordinaire, active in her community and being surrounded by family and friends at her table were her greatest joy. Her happiest hours were spent in her garden which produced many vegetables, fruit of all kinds and many flowers. Wherever there was a patch of ground, eventually a garden would be carved out of the prairie soil. Josephine Marie Bund is pre-deceased by her sister Maria Stafford, one brother, Frank Graf, Brian Stafford brother- in- law and two sisters-in-law in Hartberg. She is survived by Karl, her husband of 64 years and her children Tony (Theresa), Mona ( Derren), Rose (Bill), Heidi
(Michael), Anne (Don). She is also survived by her biggest joy, her four grandchildren - Brendan, Logan, Hayley (Justin) and Dylan. Josephine is also survived by her oldest and youngest brothers, Rudy and Katjen in Hartberg Austria and their extended families, plus her sister-in-law Erna and nieces and nephews living in British Columbia . Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (151 3rd St West), Drumheller AB on Tuesday June 02, 2015 at 11:00 AM.A Family Interment will follow at the Delia Cemetery. A light lunch will be served afterward in the Delia Community Hall. The family would like to thank the staff at Tudor Manor, Okotoks and Beverley Care Centre- Midnapore, Calgary for the compassionate care Josephine received while in their care. Most of all the family, wishes to thank the staff at South Health Campus Rapid Access Unit, Calgary AB for their loving, compassionate care of our dear Mother in her final days. We sat beside your bedside
Our hearts were crushed and sore;
We did our best to the end,
’Til we could do no more.
In tears we watched you sinking,
We watched you fade away;
And though our hearts were breaking,
We knew you could not stay.
You left behind some aching hearts,
That loved you most sincere;
We never shall and never will
Forget you Mother and Oma dear.
