Collision slows traffic

Traffic was disrupted after an accident at the intersections of Highway 9 and 10 in Drumheller Monday afternoon. Drumheller Emergency Services responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision Monday around 2:25 p.m. RCMP say four vehicles were in the left turn lane on Highway 9 and while the first two vehicles were safely making the left hand turn, the fourth vehicle collided with the third. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. RCMP say an elderly passenger experiencing some soreness was taken by EMS to Drumheller Health Centre for injury assessment.


Spaghetti eating champs crowned

Dawson Bailey was the top fundraiser in the Youth Category at this year’s Boston Pizza Spaghetti Eating contest. In all the entire event brought in $2,078 for breakfast programs at Greentree School and St. Anthony’s school.

    This year’s Boston Pizza Spaghetti Eating Contest pitted newcomers, former champions and perennial favourites head to head to slurp their way to support for area school breakfast programs.
    This was the ninth annual Spaghetti Eating Contest held at Drumheller’s Boston Pizza and had a full state of eaters bellied up to the bar to gorge themselves in pasta for a good cause.
    Overall, they raised over $2,078. This year the money is destined for breakfast program’s at Greentree School and St. Anthony’s School.
    In the Youth Category, the competition was fierce and a new record was set as Savannah Bonneau who polished off her plate in 36 seconds.
    The Teen Category saw perennial top eater Jordan Armstrong repeat as champion.
    In the Ladies Category, Melanie Mazereeuw took on a formidable opponent in Courtney Lowen but in the end was victorious.
    The Men’s Category also had former champions, favourites and newcomers. After a couple years hiatus, Eric Neuman took home the pasta crown.

Eric Neuman was the fastest to scarf down a plate full of pasta in the men’s category at the annual Spaghetti Eating contest.


    Dawson Bailey was the top fundraiser in the youth category bringing in $205. Jordan Armstrong raised $65 in the Teen Category, Dennis Standage brought in $260 and Courtney Lowen topped them all with $435.
    In the end, the big winner was the young people in Drumheller who have a chance at a nutritious start to their day through the breakfast programs.

Christmas Season Begins

The Drumheller Salvation Army's Lieutenant Laurie Sauder and Lieutenant Dusty Sauder invite residents to be a part of the Kettle Campaign.

 

While visions of sugarplums dance in our heads, it is crunch time for The Salvation Army. In fact, the Christmas season has already begun for Lieutenants Laurie and Dusty Sauder of The Salvation Army in Drumheller.  They are out in full force making sure they make Christmas a reality for those in the area who are in need, and also support their ministry for the coming year.

Already they have begun registration for families needing Christmas Hampers. Next Friday, November 21 they will be kicking off their annual Kettle Campaign and then the annual Food Drive is coming up the evening of Thursday, November 27.  For more information or how to get involved contact The Salvation Army at 403-823-2215.
