Irene Mildred Gogol passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Irene was born April 27, 1920, the second oldest of six children to Andrew and Alma Hoff. After growing up, Irene left home in search of work and found it as a cook on a farm near Indus, Alberta. It was there she met her future husband Nicholas. Nick and Irene were married on April 24, 1943. Following the birth of their first son, Gerald in 1944, they moved to a farm near Rumsey. They were blessed as well with the arrival of two daughters Lucille and Sharon and another son Leon. Irene was an avid gardener and enjoyed her garden and flowers. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for family occasions. Irene was extremely proud of having perfect attendance for many years with the Big Valley Royal Purple. She was a very active community member and had many wonderful friends. Irene had many joyful moments looking after her grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Nick and all five of her siblings. Irene is survived by her children : Gerald (Peggy) Gogol, Lucille (Terry) Hampton, Sharon (Ed) Bremer, and Leon Gogol; grandchildren Lisa (Greg) Anderson, Lyle (Brandi) Hampton, Darren (Tamara) Gogol, Shawna Bremer, Kari (Trevor) Holder, and Karli Gogol; great-grandchildren Jeffery and Amber Anderson and Grace and Sarah Gogol. Memorial services were held on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Rumsey Community Hall at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to St. Mary’s Health Care Center Continuing Care.
