It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Daniel Orval Chostner.  Dan was born in San Francisco, California, on August 30, 1947.  He moved as a child with his family to Edmonton in 1951.  He attended school in Edmonton and chose to pursue an academic career rather than following opportunities in American university football.  He received both a Bachelor of Science and a teaching diploma from the University of Alberta.  In university he met and married Shirley Brinkman who would be his wife for the next forty years.  He taught high school in Morrin for two  years before taking the opportunity to pursue a life in ranching, which he continued until he passed away on April 12, 2009.  His life on the ranch was enriched with the addition of his four children: Daniel, Christy, Virginia and Matthew.  He was additionally blessed by the expansion of his family to include his son-in law Glen, and his two daughters-in law Jimilee and Maeghan, as well as the arrival of his three grandchildren: Danae, Duncan and Kye.
Dan enjoyed the outdoors and spent as much time as he could with his family camping, fishing, boating, and hunting.  He was an avid naturalist and took great pleasure in spending many long hours cultivating habitats for different wildlife.
Dan was predeceased by his father Orval Chostner in 1994.  He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and by his mother Evelyn Chostner, his sister Connie (Tim) McGee and numerous other family and friends. Funeral Services were held April 16, 2009 at Craigmyle Historical Church, Alberta with interment following in the Craigmyle Cemetery.  Cathy Watts of Heartland Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements (403-854-2758).
