With great sadness, the family of Mary Heskett announce her passing on Sunday, September 23rd, 2012. She passed away surrounded by love in the Palliative Care Ward at St. Paul’s Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mary was born in Kincardine, Scotland on July 9th, 1942. She was predeceased by her father, William in 1970 and mother, Margaret in 1971, father-in-law, Andrew in 1994 and mother-in-law, Rose in 2001 and brother-in-law Rod Campbell in 1999. Mary has left to mourn her husband of 49 years, Gerry, and their three children and their families, David and Shantal of Fort McMurray with grandsons, MacKenzie and Andrew; Brian and June of Fort McMurray with grandchildren Benjamin and Olivia and Adrienne Starks of Saskatoon with granddaughters, Darien and Jordyn and son-in-law Lee Starks. Also left to mourn are Mary’s sister Helen and Irv Higdon of Boyle, Alberta, brother James and Dawn Elliot of Saskatoon, sister Andrena Campbell of Kamloops, British Columbia, brother John and Trudy Elliot of Bentley, Alberta, and brother Bill and Shelly Elliot of Kamsack, Saskatchewan as well as many nieces and nephews and those who consider Mary their second mother or Nana. In 1948 the Elliot family immigrated to Nacmine, Alberta. Mary attended elementary and high school in Drumheller. In 1959 the growing Elliot family moved to Saskatoon where Mary finished her schooling at Nutana Collegiate in 1960. Mary met Gerry Heskett in June of 1960 and again in September, 1962. They were engaged in December, 1962 and were married on July 6th, 1963. Mary worked at numerous jobs in Saskatoon until 1998 when she retired taking on the role of Nana and babysitting her grandchildren. Mary was an active member of several organizations. She was Supreme Officer of the International Order of Job’s Daughters, Bethel Guardian of Bethel No. 12 where she was known as “Mother Mary” and served as Grand Guardian and Grand Bethel Guardian of the Province of Saskatchewan with Gerry Cooney. In 1971, Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star Regal Chapter No. 132, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1991 with Cy Newman and in 2003 with husband Gerry. In 2008, she was elected to the Provincial Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron along with Worthy Grand Patron Gerald Busch of Kerrobert from April 2011 to April 2012. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and the Daughters of the Nile of Saskatoon. Mary was a member of the choir for the 1989 Summer Games. She was an active member of St. Martin’s United Church as choir member, chaperone for the Zodiac Hand Bell Group and St. Martin’s UCW. She was truly appreciated in all her endeavours. The service for Mary Heskett was held at St. Martin’s United Church on Monday, October 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM.
