Sloan, Lillian (nee Langer)

Sloan, Lillian (nee Langer)

October 18, 1927 – July 5, 2012

Lillian passed away July 5, 2012 at age 84 at the Drumheller hospital with her children and niece (Joan Mestinsek) by her side.  Lillian, a longtime resident of the valley, was born in Evansburgh and moved to Drumheller at age six.  After completing school, Lillian took a job at the Crown-Western Monarch mine where she worked for many years.  In 1948, she married John Sloan and they had two children.  In 1972, when her children were older, Lillian started work at the Drumheller Institution and retired in 1993. Lillian was fiercely independent, yet caring and thoughtful, always putting family first.  She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles; she was a wealth of knowledge and loved learning.  Lil will be loving remembered and dearly missed by her children Pat (Lodja) and Donna (Gilles); grand daughters Stacey and Kim; and sister-in-law Marcella as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband John; two sisters Avis and Elfride; nine brothers Bill, Herb, Fred, Emil, Rob, Gordon, Karl, Harry and Art; and her parents Karl and Hedwig Langer.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will follow at a later date.  Memorial tributes can be made to STARS, or the charity of one’s choice.
