Interpretive Centre attracts visitors year round

When visiting Drumheller don’t miss the Jerusalem Wall Biblical Interpretive Centre located on site of the Canadian Badlands Passion Play. Since its inception, the Interpretive Centre has been a major tourist attraction for numerous residents and visitors. The building is a replica of the wall which surrounded the city of Jerusalem during the biblical times. The second floor houses scale models and artifacts including Noah’s Ark, case displays of biblical items, a model of the Tabernacle which was precursor to the temple, a Gutenberg printing press (said to have been the ‘birth of printing’ and printed the first Bible) along with the Roman Coliseum and so much more.

While you are there, observe the mural which wraps around the wall of the centre taking you from Genesis to Revelations of the Bible. Don’t forget to take the opportunity to dress in the authentic biblical clothing and get your picture taken for a souvenir. General manager/artistic director Blaine McDonald said, “The Interpretive Centre is Biblically accurate centre during the time of Jesus. I hope that whatever people experience during their visit translates from the head and taken to heart.” The Interpretive Centre welcomes travel tours, school tours and visitors alike to come take in its history. Check out the gift shop and concession on the main level before you leave. During your stay in Drumheller take in some of the great theatre that the Passion Play Summer Theatre has to offer. Enjoy a one-man Passion Play, an intense interactive, intimate reiteration of the Gospel seen through the eyes of a doubter. Thomas: Confessions of a Doubter, by Randall Wiebe recounts his experiences from the moment he met Jesus, to an unexpected reunion three years after. This play has toured internationally and will be performed outdoors in the natural surroundings of the Badlands.

Come to the rendition of the Gospel of Mark by Hunter Barnes. Barnes’ one man performance of Mark His Word, takes you into the exciting, challenging, electrifying performance and encounters with The Living Word of God. Take the family on an adventure of the classic book by John Bunyan. Join Randall Wiebe in his premiere performance of Matthew and Me. Wiebe returns to speculations on the experience of following Christ as a first century disciple, this time through the eyes of Matthew ‘the tax collector’. Combined with Wiebe’s own experience travelling the world gives an interesting take on the teaching of Christ regarding possessions and poverty.

Angela Dennis brings to the stage the one woman rendition of the Epistle of James in her performance of James. Dennis brings the book of James to life as it was intended as a complete letter addressed to the concerns of its listeners. This performance is not only dramatic but enlightening for the audience bringing understanding and feeling which makes the familiar material new and relevant. After the show the audience is encouraged to participate in an informal discussion.
Also at the site will be performances for the family including; Pilgrim’s Progress Family Adventure, by Rick Borer, is the adaptation of Bunyan’s fun filled adventure of a Christian on a spiritual quest of the Heavenly City. This play offers a lot of audience participation, along the way you travel through Vanity Fair, and the Valley of Death.

On your journey you meet such people as the Giant Despair, and Faithful. Bring the entire family out for this outdoor performance of fun and learning. Time matters until you run out of it. The Exquisite Hour by Stewart Lemoine takes one hour in the lives of two people showing them the true ‘matters of the heart’. This modern day comedy is great for the entire family. Paradigm Shift is a modern play with Wycliffe Spread the Word Ministries examining the western ‘one with the most toys’ adage and its problems relating to Christ’s teachings. Navigating your way is simple, drive West on South Dinosaur Trail (on Highway 10) following the ski hill signs, and turn south into the ski hill parking lot. The Interpretive Centre and Canadian Badlands Passion Play site is tucked in behind the ski hill lodge.
