Dragons notch one, lose one over weekend

Winning on Saturday and losing Sunday, the Drumheller Dragons are now tied for the second place spot in the southern division of the AJHL.
On Saturday evening, the Dragons were on the road in Bonnyville to redeem themselves against the Pontiacs who took an overtime win on October 1.

The Dragons roared back with a dominant 4-1 win over the northern division team.
Dragon Kenton Levesque opened the scoring immediately in the first period, with only 28 seconds in he notched an unassisted point against the Pontiacs.
With a goal from Robert Geddes at the half of the first, Bonnyville didn’t respond with their only point of the game until halfway through the second period.
Drumheller local Doug Jones snuck two into the net in the third period, once on the powerplay from Keith Csizmadia and Brendan Algeo, and again on an empty net to make the final score 4-1.
The Dragons were heavily outshot, 31-21, but that wasn’t enough to shake Drumheller goalie Cole Cheveldave, who earned the away star of the game for saving 30 out of 31 chances.
On Sunday afternoon, the Dragons visited Fort McMurray on the road, but failed to score in the 3-0 loss against the Oil Barons.
Holding strong in the first period with even shots, no score was notched.
Two of the Oil Baron goals, which ultimately decided the game, were notched on the power-play. One late in the second period, and the second goal sunk in the first half of the third.
An empty net goal on Drumheller secured the Oil Barons’ win, 3-0.
The Dragons had a little break from play this week, not heading onto the ice for AJHL action until Friday, once again on the road, where they’ll take on the Camrose Kodiaks. The Kodiaks currently sit fifth in the south division.
The next Dragon’s homegame is on Saturday, October 16, where the team will host the Sherwood Park Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Arena.
The following Sunday will see the Oil Barons playing the Dragons again, at home, starting at 2:00 that afternoon.
