Drumheller’s Dragons are ready to put the “pedal to the metal” to bring themselves out from under a four game losing streak.The boys have been playing good games of hockey according to assistant coach Jason Hegberg, saying that taking losses is “how the game goes.”
On Wednesday, January 14, the Dragons started a three game road trip in Sherwood Park. The Crusaders shut out the Dragons 4-0.
“We had over 40 shots on net that night, their goaltender played extremely well, ours did as well (Braden Gamble),” Hegberg said. “He only let in four but played really well.
Two days later the Dragons were in Brooks against the Bandits, who are currently holding second in the south.
“We played inconsistently throughout the whole game,” Hegberg said.
“We had the lead in the first period, 2-1, but they came out strong in the second. They came out strong early in the second and took the lead.
Center Jeff Young scored first against the Bandits, with Robby Nocera following up near the end of the period.
Brooks upped them with three goals in the first half of the second, but the Dragons were quick to retaliate.
“We battled hard to tie the game back up to 4-4, but we couldn’t seem to get even with them. The game wasn’t an 8-4 game, I think the game was a lot better than that looks.”
Final score in Brooks was 8-4 against the hard playing Dragons.
“We played really well but we couldn’t find the back of the net. It’s frustrating for everyone, but you gotta put the pedal to the metal and keep working.”
The Dragons played the southern divisions top spot holder, the Okotoks Oilers last night on Tuesday, January 20. Results were not available at press time.
The Dragons will be heading to Calgary to take on the Canucks on Friday, January 23, followed by a game in Canmore on Tuesday, January 27.
Lloydminister comes to Drumheller to finish off the month on Thursday, January 29.
