Drumheller wanted to keep their four game winning streak alive, when they faced the Calgary Canucks on October 21. The Dragons picked up two of a possible six on a week on the road, first stop; Calgary.
Drumheller opened the game with a power play goal in the first from Robert Nocera.
Sean Pollard from the Canucks tied it with a minute and 50 seconds left from a power play goal.
In the second, the Canucks scored twice, Steven Murray getting both goals, one at 8:53 and a power play goal at 10:57
At 19:26 Trevor Smyth scored a power play goal with help from his teammate Robert Nocera.
At the end of the second period Canucks were leading 3 -2
For the third period the scoring didn’t start until there was less than three minutes left.
Mike Pao scored for the Canucks and they went up 4 - 2, 10 seconds later Kyle Fehr from the Dragons scored.
To no avail, the clock wound down, and the Dragons lost 4 - 3 to the Canucks.
It was a close game with the shots 31- 30 favoring the Canucks.
On October 25, Drumheller went to Grande Prairie to face the Storm for their second stop.
Dragons power play was 3 for 6 for the night, and came out on top with a 5 - 1 victory even though being out shot 45 - 21.
There was no scoring in the first period.
Cam Lamoureux opened the scoring for the Dragons at 1:35.
Grande Prairie responded with their own at 9:58 by Brendan Turnbull.
Drumheller then opened up with three straight power play goals coming at 12:52 from Cam Lamoureux, (second of the night), 12:52 from Jeff Young in the second period. Third power play goal came in at 12:17 from Scott Mckay in the third period.
At 19:28 Matt Frydrysek scored an empty netter in the third.
Braden Gamble held his own with a stellar performance stopping 44 of the 45 shots.
On October 26 Drumheller stopped in Spruce Grove to face the Saints.
The momentum changed drastically from the night before to now.
Spruce Grove not only beat Drumheller 5 - 1 but out shot them 43 - 25.
It was one all after the first, with a goal from Kyle Fehr for the Dragons at 6:49 and Brett Switzer from Spruce Grove at 18:38.
There was no scoring in the second.
In the third period however, The Saints unloaded on them with four goals, from nine shots.
Scott Allen from the Saints scored at 1:48.
Next three goals came within two minutes and nine seconds of each other. Shane Lehman scored at 9:03, Brett Switzer at 10:24 and Sam Dezman scored the power play goal at 11:12.
Drumheller’s power play performance was terrible with 0 for 6.
Rob Hegberg, head coach of the Drumheller Dragons said, “We got two out of the six points in those games. And we had spirts that we played really well.”
In the last two games the Dragons were out shot 88 - 46 by a lack of performance.
“We need to do a better job, giving up 40 shots a game is unacceptable,” he said.
The plan for the next game is to, “work harder,” said Hegberg.
Next game for the Dragons is Wednesday, October 29 at the Drumheller Memorial Arena facing Olds Grizzlys at 7:30 p.m.
