One of Drumheller’s volleyball products has helped lead her team to provincial gold, after the Mount Royal Cougars won the ACAC Championship Sunday led by co-captain Andrea Price.     Price, a graduate of Drumheller Composite High School, earned gold on Sunday when the MRU team beat the Grande Prairie Regional Wolves in five sets. They’ll now be travelling to Saint John, New Brunswick for the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association National Championships on March 10 to 12.
“It was nice to be in the home gym, we had a great crowd come out to cheer us on,” says Price, a third year student who will earn her Bachelor of General Arts and Sciences in April. She also earned the All-Canadian Award this season, holding second in the league with 3.5 kills per set. She and her coach both describe her playing as offensively and aggressively focused.
“I think it’ll be a great experience,” says Price about nationals. “I’m excited and I just want to go.”
“Andrea’s one of our go-to players, provides a lot of leadership for us and has grown over the last three years,” says Cougars coach Sandra Lamb. “She’s become a lot more focused and has been taking a lot of advice, looking at her game, and changing her game.”
“She’s a very positive influence and does a lot of things to keep everyone together on and off the court.”
The prospect of winning not only the Albertan title but the Canadian one isn’t fazing Price or her coach.
“We came out number one in our province, but right now there’s a lot of teams the same size and as talented as us, we just have to go in and keep playing the way we have,” says Lamb.
