Badlands soccer off to slow start, looking for players

    Soccer in the badlands is off to a slow start, getting kicked back because of the poor weather which caused the Drumheller teams to miss nearly half their games so far this season.     Teams should be halfway done the season by now but have only played a quarter of their scheduled games, allowing room for any late starters interested in playing to join in now.
Badlands Soccer Association President Dave Bethel said teams may have to play three games a week to make up for lost points in the standings, in order to make play-offs at the end of June.
    The Under 18 girls team may just be the team to watch this year, having won provincials with as U16’s, the girls are looking promising to take it again this year.
The competition will be far tougher for the team this year, says team coach Dave Bethel, but he adds that no team has been dominating as of yet.
“The competing U18s are older, but if the Drumheller girls keep improving like they did last game they have a good chance.”
    Spots are open on nearly every travelling team, and late comers can register to get playing this season.
