The disappointment of two key losses late in the season were diminished as the Titans had their way with Strathmore on Saturday in front of a hometown crowd. The Titans dominated and played with a purpose.
with how we played, in a lot of ways,” said coach Jason Rasmussen. “In all three phases of the game, offense defense and special teams, I felt we were always in control.”
Strathmore earned one touchdown the whole game, as the Titans marched to a 40-6 victory.
“When our starters were in, I felt we were dominant,” said Rasmussen.
He credits the team’s turnaround after two losses to intense practices.
“The attention to detail in the analysis of the game film with the team was present, and when we moved onto the proactive field, for the rest of the week, the focus and determination to right the wrongs was evident in the practice. Going into the game on Saturday I felt confident just from the practice,” said Rasmussen.
The Titans’ win on Saturday was the cap to the regular season, as the win secured home field advantage for Drumheller as they begin playoffs this coming Saturday.
“This is poetic justice playing itself out,” said Rasmussen.
The Titans face Olds in the first game of the postseason. This was the same team that upset the Titans three weeks ago, and moved from a face in the crowd to a provincially ranked contender.
“This is a chance to redeem ourselves. That game against Olds (Saturday, October 3) was the beginning of our little slump as a team, and now luckily we have that slump behind us and a full head of steam going into the rematch,” said coach Rasmussen. “I know they are confident coming into Drumheller to play us. They feel that it was no fluke beating us before and feel they can repeat that victory.”
To win, Rasmussen says execution is the key.
“The flaws in our execution when we played Olds in the first half and the third quarter are the ones that are relevant. Defensively we need to focus on better tackling,” he said.
“If our defense held us and prevented them from getting that momentum which put our offense in the unfamiliar portion of having to claw from behind, it would have played out a lot differently.”
