Hussar teen kicking up dirt across Alberta

A modest Hussar teen has been threading a trail through Alberta in the extreme sport of motocross racing, finishing in the top spots of his heats in the Canadian Motocross Racers Club.
Trevor Sandum, 14, has only been racing for two years, but in May of this year he finished first and third in two Southern Alberta Spring Series, also finishing tenth overall in Raymond, AB during nationals.

    “It’s alright, I guess,” Sandum says of his finishing, but he has his eye on another prize. He currently sits in the Beginner class of his league, and was working his way towards moving up to compete in the juniors.    Sandum would have done so, if not for a crash he took at his farm north of Hussar where he herniated a disc in his back and received a concussion which left him unable to do his “favourite” thing until a few weeks ago.The motocross season has died down until August, when Sandum will take reign of his Kawasaki KXF 250 to earn much needed points to leave his class.
    “I always liked riding my dirt bike when I was young,” Sandum says of the start of his interest in riding.
    “I went to a race when I was little and decided that’s what I wanted to do.”
