Richardson Roadrunners start strong, fall short

The Richardson Roadrunners Peewee D Girls softball team was at provincials in Strathmore this past weekend, July 10 through 12, and although they came out of the gates with a strong showing, fell a little short of their goal to win provincials.
Game play started on Friday against Calgary. With four infield home runs and a final score of 21-7, the girls were definitely warming up to play very well.
The second game, against Manning, was also played well, says coach Brent Sands. “They won the game with a final score of 15-14, which required an extra inning to secure. With two infield home runs and Ali Campbell scoring the winning hit, the game was most definitely a thrill to watch.”
Saturday brought on another day of excitement, with the first game against Lacombe’s L.A. Storm. The Roadrunners came up short with a final score of 14-6, but played very strong. There were a few good plays Saturday, both in the Lacombe game and the second game against the Edmonton Royals, which they lost 11-2.
Losing both the Saturday games knocked them out of the running for the top four positions in provincials, but coach Sands says “There were a lot of locals there to support us. It was really great to see all the familiar faces, and we thank everyone who came out.”
