August 5, 1973 - June 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shannon Stanford Dart of Drumheller, Alberta, on June 19, 2025, at the age of 51. Surrounded by her family, Shannon passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Shannon was born on August 5, 1973, in Drumheller to Carol and Doug Stanford. She is survived by her greatest love, her son Darian; her parents, Doug and Carol; her brothers, John (with Anna and her daughter, Maria) and Shane (with Monica and her daughter, Korin); her nephews, Steven (with Steph and their daughter, Sloan) and Jake (with Jerrica and their son, Jax); her “second son” her beloved dog DJ; and her closest friends Alison, Sandra, Deb, and Kim. She will be remembered and deeply missed by countless friends, relatives, former students, and co-workers.
Shannon devleoped a lifelong passion for sports early on, especially playing softball and cheering on her favourite teams - the Toronto Blue Jays and Calgary Flames. She was firecely determined, excelled in school, and graduated with a Degree in Physical Education (with Distinction) in 1996 and a Degree in Education (with Distinction) in 1997.
Shannon began her teaching career in Gadsby, Alberta, before returning to Drumheller, where she had the unique opportunity to teach alongside many of her own former teachers. A dedicated physical education and math teacher, Shannon was deeply committed to her students. After retiring, she tutored numerous high school students in math - another of her great passions.
Shannon was a dedicated mother, driving Darian to his practices and games, volunteering at his school, helping him with his homework, all while making home-cooked meals. She was a generous, selfless mother, daughter, sister and friend - always thinking of others before herself. Whether it was through thoughtful little gifts, fun games, or her beautifully decorated cupcakes, she found joy in bringing joy to others. Every detail, every gesture was a reflection of her kind heart and her desire to make those around her feel special and loved. Her strength and perseverance were inspiring.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27 at 2 p.m. at the Badlands Community Facility.
Shannon’s passion for education inspired her wish to establish a scholarship in her name, which will be awarded annually to a student(s) at DVSS. If you wish to contribute, a donation box will be available at the service (cash or cheques made payable to “Estate of Shannon Stanford Dart”).
