KOHUT
Irene Marguerite

October 27, 1939 - August 30, 2019

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Sister in law and Friend, departed this world on August 30, 2019 at the age of 79 years old.
Irene was predeceased by her son John Jr. The one comfort for the family is knowing they are now together.
Irene has been a long-time resident of Drumheller. Born on October 27, 1939.
Irene will be missed by many. Irene was a very proud member of the Community of Drumheller. She always enjoyed being involved in different initiatives throughout the Valley. She was generous and giving of her time. She loved her Beta Sigma Phi ladies’ group and she was a strong support to John and the Rotary Club.
Irene and John started Hi-Way 9 Express in 1969. She treated everyone as part of her family and was loved by all who knew her as a result. Many people didn’t realize how involved she was with the Company, however, in the early years Irene and John worked side by side to get the Company going. Her pride and joy was MIK Carriers. For years people didn’t know what this meant however it was her brain child (Mrs. Irene Kohut).
Anyone who knew her, knew that she was as kind and gentle of a person as you would ever meet. It didn’t matter what hand she was dealt - didn’t matter if she got knocked down. She just took things in stride, and bounced back. She was resilient. Irene kindly cared for everybody before herself.
Irene was an amazing mother of 4 children, grandmother to 12 and great grandmother to 5. She loved them all more than anything, and was proud of them every single day. She was never happier than when she was with anyone of them, they were her world.
Irene was a wife, she spent 60 years with the love of her life, John, they married February 14, 1959. She was devoted, caring, supportive and honest. After 60 years of marriage, John and Irene still looked at each other with that little sparkle in their eyes.
Although she is no longer with us on Earth, she will always be in our hearts.
Irene leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 60 years, John Kohut. Her daughter Heather (Kelly) son Darrell (Kathy) and son Dean (Katherine). Her grandchildren Christopher Kohut, Karly Bensmiller, Kyle Kohut, Trent, Taylor, and Madison Colberg, Scott Kohut, Kristine Gillon, Jeffrey, Paige, Tyler, and Mackenzie Kohut as well as her five great grandchildren Cash, Quinn, Finley, Weston, and Mack.
Irene is also survived by her sister Carol Braunberger (Roy), brothers Ted Rounds, Jim Markle (Gwen) and cousin Paul DeCosta (Sheila), as well as special nieces, nephews, sisters in law and friends.
Irene was predeceased by son John Kohut Jr, her mother Estelle Lawrence and father Speed (Harold) Rounds. Her sister Jackie Davis, Auntie Doreen, Auntie Irene, and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Irene will be held at a later date.
