It is with great sadness that Leon Van Hecke and family announce the passing of Viola Van Hecke of Stettler, Alberta on January
24, 2019 at the age of 82. Viola leaves behind her loving husband of 59 years Leon, children Deborah (Rhys), Brenda, Beverly (Dwain), Brian (Connie), Mary Theresa, Bernice (Brett); her Grandchildren: Rhys, Alyssa (Mark), Lindsey (Jordan), Spencer (Thomas), Lucas, Dawson, Cassidy, Taryn; great grandchild Ava, sister Mary and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents Jack and Loretta Van Bavel and her brother Jim Van Bavel predeceased Viola. In 1959 Vi and Leon were married. Together they started farming in Baintree until 1966. In 1966 Leon and Vi moved from Baintree to Lyalta where they farmed until 1975. They then moved to Delia and farmed until they retired in Stettler. In Delia, Leon and Vi took up curling and enjoyed many bonspiels with friends they made and have today still. Vi had a love for flowers, and gardening gave her great enjoyment – but her real pride and joy was her family, which expanded to include Leon’s and Vi ‘s first great-grandchild Ava (Alyssa/Mark) in 2017. Vi’s family is saying goodbye to her in a private ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to STARS, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of your own choice.
