Regular Council Meeting
Monday, April 27, 2020

Mayor Heather Colberg opened the regular council meeting by recognizing National Day of Mourning in Canada on April. 28. This is dedicated to remembering those who lost their lives or suffered injury or illness on the job, or due to work-related tragedy. This year this day takes on extra meaning as we express our gratitude to the healthcare workers on the front lines, groceries, transport, and service staff helping to keep communities running.
***
Council adopted Special Council Meeting Minutes for April 9, 2020, and adopted Regular Council Meeting Minutes for April 14, 2020.
***
Council approved a motion to renew the declaration of State of Local Emergency for a further seven days.
***
Council approved a motion to reschedule the Community Clean up in the fall, with two vouchers for eligible residents to use the landfill free of charge to utilize at any time throughout the year. This will be contingent this autumn on the lifting of restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This is a pilot program. This program aligns with council’s strategic priorities of the town’s status as a flood community, the town’s goal of being an attractive place for spring, summer visitor season, and the town’s objective of providing good service to residents.
***
Council approved a motion based on the recommendation of the Economic Development Advisory Committee to establish the Interior Building Improvement Grant for the 2020 calendar year. This would be a fund of $10,000 that would provide up to 75 per cent of the cost of improvement to a maximum of $2,500. This would be to incentivize business owners to enhance their interiors and add to the community by making improvements and fostering community pride. Work must be completed by August 31, 2020.
