Co-op breaks $31 million in sales
This year the Drumheller Co-op showed $31,434,447 in sales, up nearly $5 million over last season.
Its non-food division, which includes hardware, farm supplies and fuel, had $24,571, 065 in sales, up from $19,969,916 in the previous year.
The foods division saw a modest growth of about $270,000.
“In 2010 we surpassed the $30 million in sales milestone, which is a great accomplishment and proves there is a place for the Co-op in the community, “ said Board President Brett Adams.
Its success led to $809,728 in savings. Of this, $524,509 had been approved for this year’s patronage allocation. The board has approved general repayment to members of $166,541.
Members can collect their refund on Equity Days, May 4 in Linden and May 5 and 6 in Drumheller.
The Drumheller Co-op had been busy last year improving the facility as well. The Co-op has re-roofed approximately one-third of the mall, and are planning to complete the project over the next two seasons. The Co-op is also ready to open a newly improved and renovated garden centre in the hardware building at the Drumheller location.
While the petroleum division has boomed since the merger with Linden, the Co-op will be more able to serve its customers efficiently as Federated Co-op is in the early stages of constructing a new petroleum storage facility near Carseland. This increased storage capacity closer to home will give the Drumheller Co-op better access to fuel closer to home, especially at times of peak demands.
Following the meeting there are still two vacancies on the Drumheller Co-op Board of Directors. As per Co-op Bylaws Larry Jensen stepped down, as he has served his limit of consecutive terms. Richard Faulter let his name stand for re-election.
