If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.

That is the case for Drumheller native David Schumacher.
Last weekend David, son of Stanley and Virginia Schumacher, was the recipient of a 2011 New York Emmy Award for his television work.
“He pinches himself regularly, he can’t believe it,” said David’s mother Virginia, of his career choice.
David received the award for his television program called NYCMusicShow, a half hour documentary on the independent music scene in New York. He won in the Art Program/ Special category. It was for the show’s season finale on May 23, 2010. He was nominated for two awards, and to win one David was thrilled.
“It was really validating and kind of amazing that my independently produced, no-budget show actually won an Emmy,” said David. “Making the show was a tremendous amount of work, but the Emmy win makes it all really worthwhile.”
Virginia said before David’s entry into the television industry he was a musician. Both David and his sister competed at the Drumheller Music Festival.
He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated with a Bachelor of Music, focusing on production and engineering. He went on to win awards as a musician. Today, David and his wife Lala Wood own and operate Magnetic Media Productions and have produced a variety of video productions. This is their first foray into full length programming for broadcast.
“I feel lucky to have won with the first show we produced,” said David. “Hopefully it will open doors and lead to more opportunities to take on fun and exciting projects.”
The New York Emmy is awarded by the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences. The ceremony was on Sunday, April 3 at the Marriott Marquis, Time Square. About 800 television and media professionals attended the black tie event.
