Drug charges add up to five more months for inmate

An inmate at the Drumheller Institution was given an extra five months to serve after pleading guilty to simple possession of drugs. On September 10, a corrections officer at the Drumheller Institution observed Andrew Stavro, 24, accepting a small package.  When officers intervened, they discovered the package containing tablets of morphine, which have an institutional value of about $300.
Defence for Stavros told the court, as well as being charged with the offense, he also received sanctions at the institution including a 15 night lockdown. He also found it difficult to enter drug treatment at the institution because he was not serving a drug related offense.
Judge Grieve accepted a joint submission from the Federal Prosecutor and defence for a sentence of five months consecutive to his current sentence.
