The international students residing in the DCHS Dormitories had the opportunity to learn more about Christmas spirit and giving to those in need.
Richard Evans, dorm supervisor at DCHS said the students participated in an orientation with a video to explain the program and what they would be doing. They then worked along side other groups volunteering to inspect the shoeboxes and then get them ready for shipping. Annette Waiboer led them on the endeavour.
“They felt a huge reward by helping kids,” said Evans. “On that day there were 10,000 gift boxes, 10,000 kids were touched in a good way.”
He said the interest went beyond just working on the boxes. The students in the dorm also collected funds for the charity project in the dorm.
“It didn’t matter that it was a Christian–based program, they just wanted to give to kids,” said Evans.
In all, 27 students volunteered on that day, it was the first time they have participated.
