Residents of the Keystone Towers have received a break on their taxes, after meeting with members of Wildrose Assessments last week.
inSide Drumheller brought its readers the story of concerns raised by residents of Keystone Towers, concerns over what they viewed as excessive property assessments that drove up their tax bill, in its May 29 edition. Many residents of the condominium were seeing their taxes increasing by almost 100 per cent over their 2008 tax bill.
After meeting with 23 residents of Keystone Towers, arranged by condo association manager Bill Hunter, the assessor told the residents the company, “assessed aggressively,” and the end result was a reassessment of the properties, and the resulting drop in their taxes.
“It’s a good news story, people were pleased,” said resident Linde Turner. “Our concerns were met.”
Turner said her assessment dropped by $17,000, and relieved her taxes by about $170. Other residents also saw a drop.
“If people lay back and accept what they perceive as an injustice, they will never get anything dealt with,” said Turner. “Even if all it leads to greater understanding, it is worth doing.”
