Rosebud Theatre as one of three finalists for the Air Canada Business of the Year Award
The Canadian tourism industry has included Rosebud Theatre among its finalists for the Air Canada Business of the Year Award.
Created by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and presented by The Globe and Mail, the National Awards for Tourism Excellence recognize the best of the industry’s products, services and individuals. The awards are presented to companies and individuals in thirteen categories each year during a gala dinner at Canada’s Tourism Leadership Summit, which this year will be held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec.

The Canadian tourism industry has included Rosebud Theatre among its finalists for the Air Canada Business of the Year Award.
Created by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and presented by The Globe and Mail, the National Awards for Tourism Excellence recognize the best of the industry’s products, services and individuals. The awards are presented to companies and individuals in thirteen categories each year during a gala dinner at Canada’s Tourism Leadership Summit, which this year will be held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec.
Rosebud Theatre executive director Bob Davis appreciates the national industry recognition.
“It is an honour to have been nominated. There are literally hundreds of organizations in the tourism industry across Canada that are worthy of being selected,” he said. “We share many of the same challenges, risks and rewards that come with offering a quality product. Receiving a nomination from TIAC is a feather in the cap for all our dedicated employees, artists and volunteers that make the Rosebud ‘Adventure of the Heart’ a truly unique Canadian experience.”
Rosebud Theatre Artistic Director Morris Ertman adds, “This is absolutely exciting, and is testament to the fact the ethos of Rosebud is infectious. I love the fact this theatre that is beloved by Albertans, has been recognized for a national nomination. Canada has a rich and vibrant cultural landscape, and we are a significant part of that expression. I ask myself every time I see our hamlet double and almost triple in size on show days, ‘why do they come’? I think they come because Rosebud is somehow theirs too. They have ownership in it, because when we deliver a meal, meet them on the street, and ultimately perform for them, they know that it is personal. It is more than good art. It is heart and soul – food for the soul. We are a place that risks the notion if you give people something that is rich, personal and heart-felt, they will come back and bring their friends. Well, they are coming back and they are bringing their friends, lots of them! The word is out that something amazing is happening in Rosebud and people want to be a part of it!”
According to Davis, Rosebud’s road to recognition has been a long time in the making. “When our first play was staged in 1983, everyone who helped make it happen was doing something they loved, something they thought was valuable. It was a risk then and it is still a risk today. People and plays have changed over the years but the commitment to doing what we love is stronger than ever. It is this type of passion and heart-felt dedication that has built Rosebud Theatre into a leading arts and tourism icon in Canada.”
The awards will be announced November 4, at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec.
