The Fever opens on Rosebud Studio Stage

unnamed

The Fever by Wallace Shawn, playing on the Rosebud Studio Stage from July 5 through August 31 is a thought-provoking drama featuring award-winning Rosebud favourite Heather Pattengale and directed by Lunchbox Theatre Artistic Director, Bronwyn Steinberg.
This one-woman tour-de-force tells the story of a well-travelled urban socialite who encounters the truth of her privilege in the face of the injustices of the world around her. From a run-down hotel room in a foreign country, a revelation emerges from feverish contrasting visions: rich and poor, comfort and torture pleasure and pain.
From the intimacy of Rosebud Theatre’s Studio Stage, The Fever is a serious piece that will challenge and spark important conversations for the drive home.
Pattengale and Steinberg come to The Fever after an incredible season being nominated for three Calgary Theatre Critic’s Awards, and three Betty Mitchell Awards between them. The Betty’s honoured Pattengale for her performance in Theatre Calgary’s production of Selma Burke, and Steinberg’s The Dark Lady won the Betty for Outstanding Production.
When asked why she agreed to take on this role, Pattengale says, “I couldn’t stop thinking about this show after I read the script for the first time. It challenged me, made me uncomfortable. It made me think. And that’s why I want to do it. Because these are things worth thinking about. We don’t have to agree with everything in this show, we don’t even have to agree with anything in this show. But I do believe we might benefit from taking a step back, looking at the things we take for granted, and really engaging the questions this show is asking.”
And Steinberg says, “Audiences here in Alberta can see a character who may be very much like themselves grappling with the painful truth of where they fit in the world, and I hope that the piece provokes meaningful conversations and leads to a sense of hope about how we can all move forward.”
The Fever plays Wednesdays through Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone: www.rosebudtheatre.com/ l-800-267-7553.
