Rotary White Elephant sale returns

The Rotary Club of Drumheller’s annual White Elephant sale will return Saturday, October 2 following a brief hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There will be some changes to the one-day sale this year, including a change of venue to the Drumheller Stampede and Ag Society barn.
“It takes a small village to make it happen,” says White Elephant chairperson Bev Krabsen.
Krabsen shares the Ag Society has been very helpful and generous in providing the location for the sale.
Due to new COVID-19 restrictions there will be a one-third capacity limitation at all times in the barn, and guests are required to wear a mask, sanitize their hands, and maintain two metre distance.
This year the Drumheller Volleyball Club parents and players and Friends of Rotary will be among the volunteers helping with the one-day event.
Krabsen says smaller items for donation can be placed outside the barn starting the week of September 27. Larger items may be arranged for pick-up and volunteers will be masked and use sanitizer prior to entering the home, and will spend as little time as possible in the home while collecting donations.
The Rotary Club will accept a wide variety of items, from furniture and tools, to Christmas decorations, hardware, and sporting goods.
However, there are some items which cannot be accepted, such as cribs, hide-a-beds, and larger, older model televisions. This is due to regulations on these items or lack of interest in previous sales.
Krabsen says items not sold will be donated to the Salvation Army Thrift Store where possible, and Caron’s Waste Management Services are providing recycling and sanitation bins for those items which cannot be donated.
“It’s the ultimate recycling program,” Krabsen says.
The Drumheller Stampede and Ag Society barn will be open to the public starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 2.
Guests are encouraged to bring cash; e-transfer or cheques may be accepted for larger ticket items, however, no debit or credit cards will be accepted.
