At their June 1st meeting Council approved the rescinding of the State of Local Emergency (SOLE) as of Monday, June 1 at 6:40 p.m.
The SOLE was initially declared at noon on March 20 and, on May 19 it was extended to August 1, 2020.
Mayor Colberg commented “We made the decision to implement and extend the SOLE with the best interests of our community in mind. The declaration was made to protect our Town. There have been no new cases of COVID-19 since May 1 however, if we have an increase of cases we have the ability to implement the SOLE as needed.
I want to thank our community for being diligent for over 80 days as we took every precaution in our power to protect our residents. We are aware that COVID-19 has not gone away and we ask you to continue following health guidelines and maintaining social distancing.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation, particularly as businesses and outdoor facilities re-open and we experience a steady influx of visitors,” explained Greg Peters Director of Emergency Management. “We are still following the relaunch strategy of the province with stage two due to begin on June 15th.”
A State of Local Emergency gives the Town access to additional resources, and special powers under the Emergency Management Act including personnel, from other orders of government, if required.
