Four month sentence added for ATCO break-in

Court House 2

A Drumheller man who is doing federal jail time has four months added to his sentence.
Alvin Sieppert appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, November 22 via closed-circuit television from Grande Cache. He pleaded guilty to three charges stemming from a break and enter.
On June 18, 2018, Sieppert broke into an ATCO Energy facility near Carbon and broke into three trailers. He left behind a pair of sunglasses and investigators were able to match his DNA.
Sieppert was sentenced to two years in March of this year for a spate of property crimes and has a statutory release date of July 21, 2020. The crown and defense agreed had these charges been dealt with at the same time, he would have garnered another four months.
Judge Grieve agreed with the sentence and said rural property owners deserve the protection of the courts, because they don’t have the protection of close-by neighbours. He was sentenced to four months for each charge, concurrent with each other, but consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving.
