The Town of Drumheller and Wheatland County hosted an Open House to discuss its Intermunicipal Development Plan on Wednesday, November 6.
Municipalities are required to have Intermunicipal Development Plans in place with their neighbouring towns and counties by 2020 and the plan must address future land issues, transportation systems, coordination on intermunicipal programs, environmental matters and a dispute resolution process and a procedure to amends and administer the plan.
This plan applies to a geographical area along the borders of the two municipalities and is required to be put in place as part of the Intermunicipal  Collaboration Framework. This is also mandated by the new Municipal Government Act to provide for integrated and strategic planning, delivery and funding of intermunicipal services.
Drumheller is required to have three agreements in place with Wheatland County, Starland County, Kneehill County, and Special Areas, which all border the Town.
About a dozen were in attendance for the open house and presentation.
