A car thief was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty in provincial court.
Robert Stuart appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, October 26 via closed-circuit television. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and breach of conditions. He pleaded guilty to the first charge.
On June 7 of this year, a man in Acadia Valley noticed a vehicle missing from his front yard. He then saw the vehicle driving along a roadway close to his home. Stuart was found in possession of the vehicle and was taken into custody by police.
The court heard that Stuart had a related record of property crimes. The Crown and defense agreed to a joint submission of 90 days. His remaining charges related to this incident were withdrawn. He was given credit for time served, however, he remains in custody for other matters.
