A young golfer who cut his teeth at Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club is playing this week in the National Canadian College and University Championship.
Riley Gaudet, son of Rudy and Celeste Gaudet, is playing for the Concordia University of Edmonton golf team.
On September 15, they played in the North Regionals at Lac La Biche and in team play, they finished in second place behind the Grant MacEwan University Griffins. This qualified the team for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships in Red Deer at Alberta Springs.
This was a tough contest and the Concordia team found themselves trailing. On the second day, Gaudet was on fire and had the best finish of all golfers.
“MacEwan just crushed everybody in that division. We were tied with Red Deer College (RDC), but I shot a 72 under the second day. It was the best score of the entire weekend for anybody,” he said.
It went to a callback, and Concordia edged out RDC. They also placed bronze in the mixed category.
This week Gaudet will be with his team in Medicine Hat for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. They practice Monday and then the competition goes from Tuesday to Friday. He has never played this course.
Gaudet graduated from St. Anthony’s in 2016. He grew up playing at Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club and has worked there for the last four seasons.
