Pride crosswalk reaches crowdfunding goal in less than 24 hours

A crowdfunding effort by the Drumheller Pride Association for the planned pride crosswalk downtown reached its goal within 24 hours this weekend.

The pride association raised $1,200 through donations via a GoFundMe page on August 12. Organizers initially expected the donation of six colours of paint would be made by the Drumheller DinoArts Association, which is responsible for painting the dinosaur statues around town, but ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’ were ‘no longer being donated,’ the page says.

Donations were made for the paint and materials which will be used to paint the rainbow crosswalk along 3rd Avenue East and Centre Street downtown, between the Napier Theatre and the store, Yours, Mine, and Theirs. Additional funds will be used for the future restoration and upkeep of the crosswalk, the page says.

The pride crosswalk will be painted on Friday, August 24 at 4 p.m.

Members of the Drumheller Pride Association did not wish to provide a comment.
