Relay For Life arrives Friday

Last minute preparations are being made as the second annual Relay For Life is set to go this weekend, Friday, June 13 at DCHS.The organizing committee is looking to make this year an unforgettable event for all those who attend and participate. It all begins at 7 p.m. with the opening ceremonies. Relayers will want to be there much earlier to set up camp and get prepared for the marathon evening of fun, camaraderie and remembrance. The Survivors Victory Lap follows the opening ceremonies. This gives survivors of cancer the opportunity to celebrate their success in their battle with cancer, and to give hope to those who are in the battle. After the ceremony, the survivors can make their way back to a tent dedicated to these special guests and enjoy dinner at 7:30 p.m. with entertainment from the Starland Hutterite Colony. There is still a chance for survivors to register for the event and take part in the moving ceremony. Contact Vi Adie at 823-6760.After the Victory Lap, walkers will be out in full force, as the team parade begins. After that the stage will showcase an array of entertainment, and it will continue on through the night. The entertainment will take a short break for the Luminary Ceremony at 10:30 p.m. This is another emotional ceremony where in vigil fashion, the DCHS track will be illuminated with the memory of those lost, hope for those in a fight for their lives, and joy of those victorious over cancer.Luminaries are for sale running up to the event at Scotiabank, or by contacting Donnalee Ferguson at 823-7186.Following the Luminary Ceremony, a few brave souls will be going under the razor in support of cancer research. After that, headliners Band-o-Coots and Live in Stereo take to the stage. One thing is for sure, relayers will be well fed. The Lions Club will be serving a beef on a bun dinner, and EnCana and Techmation will be giving out smokies and hamburgers as a midnight snack. The Kinsmen Club of Drumheller will be serving breakfast.
