Western Chevrolet brings back drive-in movie magic

There’s nothing quite like sitting under the open sky or even in your car with your family or significant other, popcorn in hand, a comfy blanket underneath, and watching a movie.

Drive-in movies are practically a thing of the past, but to capture that magic, Western Chevrolet/GM on Highway 9 South will be hosting their second annual drive-in movie night on Saturday, August 25, starting at 9 p.m.

“Bring your car or a lawn chair and cuddly blanket!” said Barb Lubinski, partner and customer retention manager with Western Chevrolet in Drumheller.

Starting at 9 p.m., there will be two movies shown on the side of the Western Chevrolet building. People are encouraged to vote which movies will play on the Western GM Drumheller Facebook page.

The choices for movies, all of which are family friendly, are John Carter, Night at the Museum, or Wild Hogs.

There will be popcorn, pop, coffee, and hot chocolate available for attendees.

To attend, all that is required is a donation to the DinoArts Committee.

“We want to help out the DinoArts, because they are something special to our town,” said Lubinksi. “They’re neat, worthwhile, and unique to Drumheller. It’s something simple, that really benefits our town.”

The movie nights started last year and were born out of a desire to do something for families in the community and help out a worthwhile cause.

“It’s an easy, simple, and fun thing to do for families. Last year we talked about different things to do that were simple, quick, and family oriented. We came up with this. We have an InFocus projector we use in our staff meetings. We then thought it would be great if we had an FM transmitter we could get together and watch movies for fun. We did it a couple times as staff. Then we thought we had the equipment, so why not do it as a fundraiser,” said Lubinski.

Anyone wishing to attend should bring a warm blanket, lawn chairs (for those sitting outside), and some bug spray. The weather, is supposed to be sunny with a high of 21 degrees.

The movies start at 9 p.m. on Saturday night. To vote for which movies will play, check out and like the Western GM Drumheller Facebook page.
