At approximately 5:20 p.m., on July 11, 2012, an inmate was assulated at the Drumheller Institution. The injured inmate was immediately assessed by staff and taken to an outside hospital. The extent of the inmate's injuries is unknown at this time, but the victim is reported to be in stable condition.
No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident. The aggressor, a fellow inmate, has been indentified and action has been taken. There have been no changes to the Drumheller Institution's normal routine.
The Drumheller RCMP and Correctional Services of Canada are investigating the incident. In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action where it deems necessary.
