Increased violations result in distracted driving crackdown

The Drumheller RCMP will be ramping up enforcement of the Distracted Driving legislation in response to a rise in the number of motorists who have been observed using cell phones while driving.

The Distracted Driving legislation has been in effect in the Province of Alberta for approximately 8 months.

Initially, there was a noticeable difference. It was common to see vehicles pulled over to the side of the road and drivers talking on their phones.

Those observations are now becoming rare, while it has become common to see drivers again using their phones while driving.

This legislation was brought in to increase the safety of persons using our roads. There have been many devices that enable drivers to use their cell phones in a hands free application.

Under the legislation, there are few valid reasons to justify the use of a hand held cell phone while driving.

Drumheller RCMP members will be paying closer attention to these offences and will issue tickets to all those found in violation.

Please do your part and obey these laws as well as tell others to stop.  The life you save may be yours or that of your loved one.
