Dragons earn one point on road trip

The Dragons came off their two game weekend road trip with one point, after a shootout loss to the Canmore Eagles Saturday and a 5-1 loss to Brooks on Friday.

Drumheller is fighting to secure a play-off spot as the season is into the latter half, with the Dragons sitting just one point ahead of the seventh place cutoff for the south.
Canmore opened the scoring at the halfway mark during Friday’s game, with Drumheller’s Kenton Levesque not responding until halfway through the second. Canmore took the lead again on the powerplay three minutes later, with Drumheller waiting until the 14:17 mark in the third to tie it up on a goal from Evan Warner.
With no tally in the overtime period, it took 10 shoot-out chances until Canmore’s Willy Sakal finally scored on Dragon netminder Cole Cheveldave.
Friday’s game against the Brooks Bandits was far less of a nail biter, with Brooks taking the early lead and piling on the goals in a 5-1 landslide win against Drumheller. Newly acquired Dragon Riley Spraggs was the only shooter to find the back of the net, with his first period goal at the 7:20 mark. Drumheller had many scoring chances, with 30 shots to Brooks’ 41, but failed to score on Bandit goalie Jan Obernesser.
The Dragons will be at home Thursday evening, where they’ll take on the Calgary Canucks, who sit at the bottom of the southern division standings. The Dragons are 6-12-0-5 at home so far this season.
The Dragons sit with 36 points, trailing behind the Olds Grizzlys with 44 points. Canmore is tied in points, with the Calgary Mustangs trailing at 35.
