A season on the gridiron comes to a head this Saturday as they hit the field for their provincial play-in game.
The postseason begins this Saturday as the Titans take on the Highwood Mustangs in High River.
Coach Ken Fournier says Highwood plays in a tough league and have strong coaching.
“They haven’t had a great season this year in terms of scores, but I haven’t seen them play,” he said.
The Titans are riding a wave of momentum going into the playoffs after beating Forest Lawn of Calgary with a convincing 42-6 win. While the score was lopsided, coach Fournier says it was a battle.
“They (Forest Lawn) definitely had some guys that could cause a ruckus, they had a running back we couldn’t get a hand on. He was sneaky, there would be a bunch of traffic, and you thought the play was over, and then he would be barreling down the sideline,” said Fournier.
He said the Titans rose to the occasion. “We played well, we didn’t take a lot of penalties, he said.
Noah Miles had a great game with two touchdowns, Louis Arida had one and Derek Carriere ran in three.
“We have been waiting for Derek to get there, he was just coming back from injuries at the beginning of the season, it has taken him a while to get to where we think he could be,” said Fournier.
The defense also stood tall holding Forest Lawn to just one touchdown.
“That is the story of our defense this year, every week another guy or two are making the big plays, and this week it was Malcolm Kimmel. He hit the quarterback and caused a fumble which we recovered, and then Mike Peters hit the quarterback and caused a fumble which we also recovered,” said Fournier.
Coach Fournier says his team is excited for the playoffs coming off the win. “It’s good to have a bit of momentum,” he said.
Defense is picking up where we had holes earlier in the year, Offense is getting the total package together, special teams are executing at a higher level, so we are getting to where we need to be going down the stretch.”
