DVSS athlete shines at provincials

A DVSS athlete proved her prowess at the provincial track meet.
Foote Field in Edmonton was the site of the 2016 Track and Field Provincials on June 3rd and 4th.  DVSS had one athlete who qualified in the 3000m race and 1500m race.
Kyra Koustrup, a Grade 12 student was one of the 1,100 student athletes from across Alberta who participated.
In the 3000m race on Friday, Koustrup improved her personal best by 40 seconds which resulted in a 5th place finish.
On Saturday Koustrup ran the 1500m race, once again improving her personal best by 15 seconds, this resulted in a 6th place finish.
The competition at this event was top notch and in both of Kyra’s races it was a fast paced run. There truly are gifted athletes who can “run like the wind” and it is incredible to be able to watch that in a person.
“I was so happy with how Kyra performed and represented Drumheller, giving her all and demonstrating sportsmanship by congratulating all participants,” said coach Dawn Sullivan. “It was a great way for Kyra to finish her high school athletic career!”
