Teacher gets in Mudder Mode

Drumheller Teacher Ryan Hatch is  hyped about taking part in his first Tough Mudder this weekend.

A DVSS staff member has been preparing and is looking forward to the challenge of the sixteen-plus kilometer Tough Mudder obstacle course this weekend.
Ryan Hatch is on a team of 11 that includes current and former residents, who will be taking part in the September 6 & 7 Tough Mudder event in Drumheller.
Preparation for Hatch has included running and lifting weights that are part of his regular fitness routine.
Hatch said he wasted no time joining up to tackle the Tough Mudder obstacle course.
“As soon as we found out,  myself and Brian Olsen - who grew up here in Drumheller - the two of us signed up instantly when we could, we were so excited to do it,” said Hatch.
He’s done obstacle courses on a much smaller scale, such as the Carbon Mud Stomp, but has not been on a course of this size before.
“I just love the challenge. It’s a new kind of challenge, and it’ll be fun, “ Hatch said.
He’s known about the Tough Mudder events for a long time, hearing about it when he’s been out taking part in marathons and other races, but never had a chance to take part it one until it came to Drumheller.
Electroshock, an obstacle where participants get electrocuted, is the obstacle  he tells us that him and others are worried about.
But he said the most important thing that he’s heard from people who have been in Tough Mudder is to go out and have fun.
“My wife thinks I’m nuts, but, she knows that I love this kind of stuff, so she’s supportive.”
Hatch said the kids are waiting to hear the stories when he returns to school on Monday.
