Carolyn Louise

April 24, 1941 - March 28, 2022

Carolyn Binning of Strathmore, formerly of Standard, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2022, at the age of 80 years with her loving family by her side.
Carolyn was the third child of Stewart and Ella Hayes and was raised on the family farm east of Arrowwood. In her youth, Carolyn was very involved in the Canadian
Girl Guide Movement and proud to be awarded her Gold Cord in 1958. Later she dedicated many years of service to the 1st Standard Co. as Lieutenant and
Captain. Carolyn received her Stenographer’s Certificate at Lethbridge Secretarial College and started her career at Nobleford Cultivators; a job she loved. She met her true love, Duane Binning, at a dance in Mossleigh. Duane and Carolyn were married in 1961 in a double wedding with Carolyn’s sister Lois and Walter Leadbeater. Duane became Principal of Arrowwood School and there they began their life together. After five years in Arrowwood they moved to Standard where they resided for 46 years, later moving to Strathmore in their retirement. Carolyn and Duane enjoyed 58 wonderful married years together.
Carolyn was an exceptional homemaker. She sewed clothes, made countless costumes for the skating carnivals, and was exceptionally gifted in baking and decorating beautiful cakes, creating lovely quilts and keeping the flower beds pristine. She made our house a home. Carolyn was a founding member of the Standard Figure Skating Club and a very proud Lifetime Member of the Standard Lionettes. Many days were spent RV’ing throughout Canada and the US. She and Duane also
enjoyed several cruises and many winters at their home in Arizona.
Carolyn leaves behind daughters Laurie (Sheldon) Watt of Carbon, Norma (David) Deisman of Strathmore, Joan Binning of Calgary, and Debra (Warren) Kapaniuk of Whitehorse. She is also lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren Tanner Watt, Danika (Kyle) Kalmbach, Kristine (Joe) Elliott, John Deisman (Hiransh Popat), Jeff Deisman (Courtnay Martiniuk), Krystal Deisman (Josh Erl), Wyatt Kapaniuk and Emmett Kapaniuk, as well as great grandchildren Troy and Lola Deisman, Amaiya Deisman, Lincoln and Emilia Kalmbach, and Duane and Benjamin Elliott. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Duane, her infant son Dennis, parents Stewart and Ella Hayes, brother Ron Hayes, and sisters Lois Leadbeater and Susan Schalin.
The family wishes to express our most sincere thanks and gratitude to Tammy, Carrie and Kirra in your exceptional and devoted care of our Mom. She felt very fortunate and grateful to have each of you in her life these last few years. Thank you also to our Mom’s community of support at Sagewood including her wonderful neighbours who all look out for one another.

SPECHT
Robert Daniel

April 7, 1965 - March 23, 2022

It is with crushing sorrow we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle, partner, friend. Rob was born April 7, 1965 in Eatonia, SK, he was busy and loveable right from the start. Being quite mischievous, he kept his parents and sisters on their toes. He always loved a good prank, he was easygoing and loved to help out his family and friends. Our family moved to Calgary in 1966, then to Carbon in 1973, where Robert took most of his schooling and made a lifetime of friends. Rob loved snowmobiling with his family and friends, once even riding from Carbon to Calgary for a telethon and lots of snowmobiling in the mountains on John Deere trips with Dad. After high school he attended DeVry in Calgary, from there he got a job with Shell Oil, and held various jobs in Calgary and Edmonton, the latest at Edmonton casino. Rob made friends wherever he went, he loved the mountains and to camp with his friends and his four dogs. The void he leaves is tremendous, but we will always cherish the wonderful times we had with him and all of the memories we are left with.
Rob leaves to mourn, his partner Leonard Fagan, his father Dan Specht (Donna), his mother Olive Coutts, his sisters, Susan Nairne (Terry) and Heather Gallagher (Sean), nieces and nephews Wesley Awesome (Bernadette), Stacee Amos, Jessica Nairne (Jamin), Evan Gallagher (Kate) and Avery Gallagher, great niece and nephew Annastasia Amos and Austin Hosick, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Also, his beloved friends Ron and Darryl, and his pups Larry, Willow, Tiny and Mabel.
Rob was predeceased by his grandparents Phil and Annie Specht and Oliver and Beatrice Krogstad, step-father John Coutts, and his beloved dog Shamus.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Strathmore Handi-bus, Box 2533, Strathmore, AB. T1P 0H3
