CALDWELL, James Robert (Bob)
Saturday, September 18, 1920 - Tuesday, April 12, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bob Caldwell at Royal University Hospital on April 12, 2011 at age 90. Bob is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 57 years; nephews Tom (Dani) Dooley and family of Drumheller and Al (Darcia) Dooley and family of Edmonton. He was predeceased by his parents William and Thelma Caldwell and his sister Dorothy Dooley (1999). Born in Drumheller, Alberta, Bob grew up on a cattle ranch near East Coulee. He attended Washington State University at Pullman, WA, graduating with a degree in Wildlife Management in the Spring of 1951. He began working for Ducks Unlimited that same year in Swift Current. In 1960 he was moved to the Ducks Unlimited branch in Saskatoon. In the late 1960s he joined the Saskatchewan Department of Wildlife, eventually transferring to the Canadian Wildlife Service where he worked until he retired in 1985. As a young man,  Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved gardening. Growing lilies was his passion, and he grew many prize-winning specimens. He also played a “mean” fiddle with the Silver Strings and the Outcast groups. He enjoyed 20 years of singing “lead” with the Saskatoon Barbershop Chorus and was for many years a tenor in St. Martin’s Sr. Choir. Other hobbies were woodcarving and oil painting, resulting in a number of handsome pieces of each. A Celebration of Bob’s life was held on Monday, April 18 at St. Martin’s United Church, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
