Nielsen – Cecilia Nielsen, beloved wife of Soren Nielsen of Strathmore, passed away in Strathmore on March 24, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Born in Stovring, Denmark on June 8, 1924 Cecilia immigrated with her family to Canada at the age of 2 years. Her family came to Wayne, Alberta and settled in the Hussar area. Cecilia received her education in Adam’s Lake and Hussar. She joined the Canadian Air Force as a cook and was stationed in Calgary, Guelph and Newfoundland. Cecelia later worked at Bow Lake Num Ti Jah Lodge as a waitress for 4 summers. She married Soren on December 9, 1950 in Calgary and resided in Calgary and later Make Peace. They farmed there for 39 years before retiring to Strathmore in 1989. Cecilia loved horseback riding, gardening, visiting with family and friends. She loved to express her artistic ability and was very dedicated to her grandchildren. Cecilia will be remembered for her hardworking and caring nature and for always putting everyone ahead of herself. She was predeceased by her parents Marie and Viggo Kargard and a brother Svend. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whom will be missed by her loving family; husband Soren; two sons Eric and his wife Sherri of Hussar and Melvin and his wife Wendy of Hussar; six grandchildren Brad, Steven, Owen, Reed, Spencer and Leeza and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 29 at 2:00 PM from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Dan Hendrickson officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were all friends and family whose lives were touched by Cecilia. Interment followed at Bassano Cemetery.
