HAAHR, Ida Mary (nee Vice)

haahr-ida-mary.jpgIda died peacefully on December 6, 2009 at her home at Parkland Place in Melfort, SK at the age of 97 years. She was born May 25, 1912 in Cornwall, England and immigrated with her family to Canada, and settled in Cereal, AB when she was 2 years old.  In 1937 Ida married Viggo Haahr and they made their home at Acadia Valley, AB.  They had 3 children: Caryl, Jerry and Jack. During their years at Acadia Valley they farmed, ran the telephone office and owned and operated Haahr’s M & M Store. Viggo died in 1962 and in 1967 Ida relocated to Drumheller, AB to care for her aging parents.   Ida worked various jobs until she was 75 years old; many will remember seeing her at the Greyhound Bus Depot.  Ida remained living in her own home in Drumheller until 2008 (at the age of 96) when she moved to Melfort SK to be near her daughter in-law, Virginia and granddaughters, Shannon and Jodi, at which time Ida transitioned into Long Term Care. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Viggo; daughter, Caryl Lavine; sons, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Haahr, John Lewis ‘Jack’ Haahr;  grandson, Patrick Lavine; great grandson, Ryan Tremblay; sisters, Edna Davis, Doris Stanway, Carrie Llewellyn; brothers, Jack Vice and Lewis Vice. She leaves to mourn her passing: her brother, Bill (Dawn) Vice; daughter in-law, Virginia Haahr; grandsons: Peter (Cindi) Lavine, Bart (Sheryl) Haahr, John (Jodi) Eliason; granddaughters: Debbie Lavine, Christine Lavine, Shannon (Cory) Cadrain, Jodi (Colin) Romanow, Sherry Eliason; great grandchildren: Alysia, Stephanie, Vanissa, Logan, Jesse, Dylan, Taylor, Rory, Macy, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Abby and Hayden;   as well as many nieces and nephews.  Ida will forever be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Thank you to the staff at Parkland Place, as well as to Drumheller and Melfort hospitals, Nirvana Assisted Living and Sasko Park Lodge for the kind and considerate care given to Ida over the past 2 years. A private service will be held in Ida’s memory at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
