HARGREAVES, Norris Gordon

Norris Gordon Hargreaves, born in Silverton, Manitoba on April 7, 1929, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Mary Hargreaves (formerly Aagaard, nee Liptak) and father of Rick, Brent, Kary and Heather (Hassler). Norris was predeceased by his first wife Sheila (nee Walker), son Rick; and siblings Jack, Gary and Berna (Boyle). Norris’ career was highlighted by 33 years of dedicated service with Federated Co-operatives, including many years as the General Manager of Drumheller Co-op, from which he retired in 1984. Norris’ greatest joys were his family and golf. Norris and Sheila moved to Shuswap Lake when they retired, and spent their winters in California enjoying the sun and golf year round. A great student and teacher of golf, Norris’ passion infected those around him from spouses to grandchildren. After Sheila died in 1990, Norris married Mary Aagaard and they built a new home and life together in Kelowna, B.C. and in Palm Desert, California. In 2013 they moved to French Creek, on Vancouver Island, B.C., and Norris spent his final months fascinated with their view of the ocean, observing eagles nest and soar, and of course watching golf and curling. Norris is survived by his wife Mary, his sons Brent (Marilyn) and Kary (Jeannette), daughter Heather (George), daughter-in-law Sharon Hargreaves (Rick), and their extended families. He is also survived by Mary’s sons Brent (Gail) and Chris (Fredeen), her daughter Karen, and their extended families. It was Norris’ wish to be cremated and the family has held a private gathering in his honour. No funeral or service is planned.
