Mary Stankovic, of Hussar, passed away in Strathmore on January 17, 2015 after a brief illness at the age of 97. She was born May 5, 1917 in Gronlid, Saskatchewan. Coming from a family of 16 siblings she was fourth oldest. Mom moved to Saskatoon, Sakatchewan when she was six years old with her family. She lived there until she moved to Drumheller in 1940 where she met her husband John who was working in the coal mines. Then in 1946 she and John moved to Hussar when the opportunity to go farming arose. She started cooking for her husband and 10 men three meals a day, it was during this time she learned how to cook, bake bread and harvest a chicken or two for supper. While in Hussar she loved to play sports especially softball with the girls. In her golden years she looked forward to playing cards with the seniors at the Sundowners Centre in Hussar. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Blasken (Gerry) and her two grandsons Cody and Dillan  (Shelby), brother, Alex, sister-in-law, Bonnie, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John, of 58 years, and by 14 of her brothers and sisters. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 1 pm at the Hussar Community Hall with lunch to follow. Service Arrangements are being done by Wheatland Funeral Home of Strathmore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hussar Community Hall or The Sundowners Centre in Hussar.
