ANDREW Leonard Omer

Andrew, Leonard Omer

February 8, 1924 - June 25, 2014

Our beloved father passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Len is survived by his loving wife Frances and his eight children, Paul (Sharon), Mark (Karen), Harriett, Jeannette (Craig), Mary Lou (Alfred), Josey (Randy), Frances (Leonard), Anthony (Sherry), twenty three grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.  Len is also survived by his siblings Ted, Yvonne, Jim and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Charles (1945), Ernestine (1980), and by his grandson Andrew Patterson and his nephew Stanley Oistryk. He was educated at the East View School on the Pope Lease, and graduated from High School in Drumheller.
Dad enlisted in the air force and was stationed at Gaspe as a radar operator until his father’s passing in 1945. He then returned home to operate the family farm.  In 1948 he met the love of his life, Frances Brown, a nurse from Halifax.  They were married December 29, 1949 in Halifax and purchased a red truck in Detroit and drove home to Alberta.  They moved to the Taillon farm in Kirkpatrick six months later. Len was a leader in the Rural Electrification Association and was instrumental in bringing power to the community. He was involved in the 4-H Calf Show Committee, Co-op Board, School Board, Hospital Board, the Ag. Society, Unifarm, St. Anthony’s Parish Council, and the Knights of Columbus.  He learned how to ski at the Gaspe, and was involved in developing the first ski hill in the Drumheller area, which was on his own land. Dad was an avid bowler for years, loved to play pool, especially with his grandchildren, and spent many enjoyable days golfing in Rosebud. Len & Frances enjoyed winter holidays in Hawaii and, drove their motor home to Halifax to visit Frances’ childhood home.  Family was very important to Len, and he is very important to his family.  Dad had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make memorial donations to St. Anthony’s Parish Building Fund at 151 3rd St. W. Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y4.
