Meller Kenneth (Ken) Gordon

Meller, Kenneth (Ken) Gordon
January 30, 1942 - April 17, 2012

Ken passed away peacefully in the Drumheller hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer,  with his family by his side. Ken was a selfless, kind and giving man with an easy smile and a ready joke, always willing to lend a helping hand.  He loved to spend time with family and friends, visiting and sharing laughter and music. Ken began his working career early in life, proud to have worked on the George Storch farm; as a heavy equipment operator for Starland County; being a partsman for E.O. Parry/Schinnours; travelling the countryside as a salesman for Snap-on Tools, and completing his career by retiring from the Drumheller Penitentiary after 31 years of service in 1998, at which time he founded Meller Cemetery Maintenance and Repair, representing Remco Memorials. He was an active member of many service clubs and organizations throughout his life, including the BPOE #54; the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #22; the local branch of the Navy League, and Kinsmen. He was also the Regional Vice-President of the Alberta Union of Solicitor General Employees; a member of the Heart to Heart Association, and tremendously enjoyed being Santa for multiple generations of children in the area, for nearly thirty years.  Ken will be met in Heaven by his parents Ralph and Myrtle Meller, eldest son John Bradley (J.B.), Mother-in-law Eve Storch and a parade of tail-wagging canine companions. Ken will be dearly missed by his wife of 43 years Diana Meller (Morrin), sons Michael (Carla) of Morrin and Scott (Natasha) of Fort McMurray, granddaughters Marina, Jasmine, Kaitlyn, Lindsey and Alexandra, and great granddaughter Destiny. Ken will also be missed by his brother Gerald (Mae) Meller of Victoria B.C., sister Elaine (Larry) Johnson of Calgary, Father-in-law John Storch of Drumheller, his large extended family and many close friends. A memorial service will be held at the Morrin Community Hall April 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., luncheon to follow. Courtney Winters Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements (403-823-2660). For those who desire, memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller Regional Health Complex, and directed to either the Palliative Care facility or the Cancer Clinic.
